Meet Miss Addison

It is that time of the year Miss Addison is crowned and her name is…  Lights, Camera, Action it is happening at the rotunda at the Village Hall. It was an inviation from Emilio while I was sitting at the park today. Got to go as I said goodbye to my friends at the park. People had gathered. The evening started, and in the middle of the rotunda stood six contestants however only one will be chosen for the year 2010.  At the head table sat four judges, a mixture of a man and three women, each of different backgrounds.

First Miss Addison 2010, Alexis Maxwell, was introduced with her tiara securely fasten. Next Miss Addison 1985 Lavonne Cescolini and then our six contestants were individually introduced. They are Kimberly, Jennifer, Kali, Alexandra, Monique and Melissa.  It was an opportunity to meet young women with many talents. Kimberly for example is teaching already, Jennifer an “accomplished artist”, others are class President, volunteer and more… The participants were either from the class of 2010 or 2011.  These Addison High School graduates class 2010 will be attending either University of Illinois Chicago or Urbana, University of Wisconsin, University of Michigan or Northwestern University.  Jennifer declares herself a future woman President while Melissa is inspired to be an engineer.

The evening lasted one hour and half with two intermissions.  During the second intermission the contestants created an opportunity to meet with their family and guests while dressed in their elegant evening gowns. At the time I realized that I was seating and speaking to a proud Mom and Dad. These young women posed in their designer casual wears or evening gowns.  Addison and Fashionista what a combo!

The contestanst also participated in a round of Q&A sessions.  The questions ranged from “What is the best advice that you ever received? to what would you tell your teenager? and who is your role model?  Kimberly answered the latter question by saying Lady Gaga because she is free to be and is comfortable with herself.

I always wonder who is Miss Addison?  This evening I got my answer.  Aside from her prizes received Miss Addison is usually seen smiling and waiving at the Community Day event parade. How do you chosse just one? These sweet, lovely and personable young women are ready to tackle the world thru their career and life mission. The first runner up is Monique and the second runner up is Kali.  Drum roll please and the winner is Alexandra Longo, Miss Addison 2010.  As she is being crowned I had the opportunity to ask Miss Addison what does this moment feel like? and she poisely answered “It feels amazing.  I grew up in Addison to be Miss Addison feels great…community.

Miss Addison, a community legacy.
